My neighbour from hell, part two: It gets worse.
A hunt for the one person who might be able to help. Plus, weedkiller, a curse, and the police.
Where were we?
Oh yeah.
The neighbour.
Before we get into part two of this insane saga, a quick recap. Earlier this week I began the story of my nightmare neighbour, the guy playing the same three songs, over and over again, blasting them so loudly our window panes would rattle.
Meghan Trainor. Katy Perry. Imagine Dragons. On repeat. Always.
There was method to his madness: he wanted to force us to move out. The neighbour told me so, over the fence, and again in text messages.
If you haven’t read that piece yet, you probably should before we get into today’s follow-up. You can find it here.
Before we begin, a warning. I’ve been contacted by many people who’ve suffered through their own version of this suburban nightmare. I’ve heard stories of all-night driveway parties, break-ins, threats, property destruction, and someone just standing there staring into a home security camera for actual minutes.
In one case, there was a punch-up and an arrest. In another, someone suffered through noise like ours for four long years.
So, for all of you that have struggled with a nightmare neighbour, today’s post could be triggering. This is the one that gets weird, and nasty. My lawn gets poisoned. The police get involved. Someone puts a curse on my neighbour.
Prepare yourself for a wild ride.
I want as many people as possible to read this story. But I also need to be careful. The events I’m depicting here took up six months of my life, and it took another six to report it. The man at the centre of it is still around. I had to get legal advice. None of this is cheap. #journalism.
So this post is for paying Boiler Room subscribers. If you’d like to read it, sign up to a monthly subscription, or an annual one, which works out cheaper. I’ve kept prices low but I understand times are tough. If it’s still too much for you, please reach out and I’ll comp you a sub. No judgement whatsoever.
