TBH, David Dallas would bring me out but only if there's some seating (disability seating sucks, even more when it's an 'invisible' disability and you have to fight the venue to get seating)
Also loved Pearl Jam, had a blast at The Cult on Thursday and looking forward to Sin City and Magic Factory tonight. Then coming up I have tickets for Jack White, Amyl & The Sniffers, Supergroove, Fontaines D.C./Wunderhorse and The Murder Capital. Also considering Los Bitchos and Alien Weaponary. Exciting times!
Thanks for reminding me about that Fontaines DC show - I need to get tickets. Don't want to miss out like I did on the first Supergroove Town Hall show.
What a list!
Amyl & The Sniffers - think I should go? I'm tempted...
Bob Mould was pretty epic last night at San Fran in Wellington. Would have been better with full band though. But man that guy can write some glorious hooks.
Oh that’s easy. Opeth at Town Hall, which was a surprise announcement a couple of weeks back. I also have their new album on the way to me, and early reviews are very positive. It dropped on Spotify yesterday, but I’m waiting to hear it for the first time on vinyl.
Still eagerly awaiting Dream Theater and Steven Wilson to include us on their 2024/2025 tour schedules. Hopefully those announcements will be a little New Years treat. 🤞😆🤘
Ho boy! One song? That’s a challenge. They started off as a death metal band, then leaned more into prog metal, before entering a prog rock phase with all clean singing, and now with a nod back to their heavier side on the new album (complete with a few death metal growls).
That being said, The Drapery Falls is as good a starting point as any.
So excited to finally see Khruangbin - bought a ticket but haven't figured out the logistics of an AKL-CHCH trip just yet - that can wait. Afterpay took a hammering this week and that is before Pixies, Kaytranada (Channel Tres was outstanding before Groove Armada at the Domain!) & JPEGMAFIA tickets are secured. 2025 looking busy already!
Been playing Peel Dream Magazine's Rose Main Reading Room a lot recently and still spinning Nilufer Yanya, Dooechii & Foggieraw
So good - Denial is a River has been getting lots of plays at this house. Yeah saw a lot of the Camp Flog Gnaw footage - Erykah Badu looked amazing too!
Excited for Kehlani! Went to her show last year and the sound was so bad. She is one of my favourite artists of all time so I was really gutted. Stoked we get to do it again!
Oh man, that does not give me much hope since it’s at the same venue. I could not believe it. Standing there like “surely they’re gonna stop the show and fix this” but noooope.
Still nothing. Genuinely not interested in any of these acts. Would have gone to Jack White if they hadn't sold all the tickets in presales before anyone knew it was happening. There's nothing in the calendar.
And the one gig that now isn't: Childish Gambino. I am sad.
Yeah that sucked eh.
Use that money for Tyler the Creator tickets James!

Do you know what the situation is in Double Whammy Tui?
I know the stairs there are pretty brutal, but I haven't checked the new layout in person yet. That will be my first time seeing it in action...
No, I must get in touch with venues - their websites never tell you what you need to know!

I think Amyl at The Powerstation will be amazing, there are some decent pro-shot live videos of them on YouTube to try before you buy.
Will give those a go - ta!

He's actually playing the Powerstation tonight but I'm heading to Mousey at Neck of the Woods - dammit :/
Ahh that would have been a great venue to see him in Chris!

I know a lot of people excited for that Opeth show David. Where should a beginner start? Can you send me a song plz?

How good is that Doechii album?! Have you see the clip of her upstaging Tyler? Incredible… https://youtu.be/7z1bKu8OXbY?si=C-Wr2mNdHB1-5oEK

I was there too - the sound was AWFUL.
R&B at Spark is really hard to balance right with all those instruments and voices. Same happened with Anderson Paak.
Fingers crossed!!!

That’s a bad feeling eh. Had it a few times.
Town Hall would be so good for her.

Kia ora! A second Jack White show has just been confirmed - get in there!

Was gone by the evening - and in any case, getting to Auckland in mid December on a weeks notice is just simply not what I do.
Those tickets went SO FAST. He’s doing extra shows in Australia - wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens here :)
