Thanks for your reports, this year, Chris. I always open your missives and even though I know there will be ‘quicksand’ in the first bit, to draw me in & keep me going till the end. Hope other media revive music journalism for anyone who doesn’t know about your substack…

Thanks for such a fun blog Chris. Apparently some Limp Bizkit gigs in Oz were much more in line with my idea of not-retro, good on you for rating the one here.

Here's a review - there are about four, Oz not so poorly served as NZ for coverage perhaps

Why is an artist I see as surfing the breaking wave of musical futurity these last couple of years opening for a retro act? Well even though "rock" is an anachronistic term in this context some of its values are still present, and there are a couple of identifiably rap-metal tracks in Zheani's oeuvre, notably "The Question", and "You Saw" which may be her masterpiece. It's one of my main theses that musical innovators are able to reductively extract the thrill of hearing music that impressed them as children to place in fresh idioms. Kudos to the band or their promoter for getting this link. There's also a hint of atoning for Woodstock 99 about their choice of a #MeToo heroine,, but I may be reading too much into that.
