I'm starting to wonder when this nostalgia kick is going to run out of steam. Maybe it won't. I'm holding out for something like Soundwave to re-emerge as a nostalgia fest with a recreation of one of its nu-metal heavy lineups from like 2002.
Nostalgia’s the closest thing you can get to a guarantee, and that’s the crowd that had money. It’s just math. I’d bet we still have a while to go before it really burns out…
I’m glad it’s so easy for you to ignore it & move on.
I wasn’t aware I was giving a lecture. I thought it was a comment section where people could discuss their opinions. It seems you only want to share yours, and don’t care for anyone else’s. Good to know. Have a lovely day.
Hi Abbey, and Anne-Marie, I wasn't expecting to wake up to this today...
Anne-Marie's right, this is a music-dedicated newsletter.
And Abbey's also right, this is a comment section where people can share their opinions.
It's pretty easy to find a fight these days. So, as a general rule, and because this is my safe space that I use because I quit social media a few months back, I'd like those opinions to be thoughtful and considered and respectful at all times :)
Hi Chris, to be honest, the ongoing references to Seinfeld’s show in multiple issues of your music-dedicated newsletter have made me pretty uncomfortable but I chose not to comment until now. Guess I’ll stick with my quiet discomfort in future.
And that's fair enough Abbey. Yes, this is a music newsletter but I've covered other entertainment-related things in the past, and I'm particularly interested in how ticket pricing works. With $850 tickets being sold, Seinfeld was a pretty egregious example of that. That was the basis of my initial coverage.
As his stance on Israel generated headlines in the months leading up to his tour here, that rightly became a much bigger focal point.
I guess I tried to wrap all of that up, but maybe not as well as I could have. I can tell you I felt deeply uncomfortable being at his show (as a reviewer, for RNZ). In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have gone at all. That's something I have been thinking about in the days since.
Someone pointed out to me recently that Radiohead and the band's guitarist Johnny Greenwood play regularly in Israel, which has made me rethink my Thom Yorke ticket that I spent ages in queues trying to get.
Can you still enjoy Seinfeld (the show) but not Seinfeld (the man)? I deleted all of Kanye's music from my playlists after his anti-Semitic tirades. I don't know how far to take it. But I'd be interested in your opinion...
Aw, thanks for the shouts Chris!

I don’t think anyone should be moving on from the genocide unfolding in front of our eyes every day. One which Seinfeld is fully in support of.
I’m glad it’s so easy for you to ignore it & move on.
