The seven (yes seven) 17 Y/O girls we dropped off and then picked up from Maccas in Gt Nth Rd afterwards were absolutely amped about the show. They were in the seats not mosh pit. They reckoned for the money they paid for the tickets, it was excellent entertainment value.
The fighting wasn't optimal, but as someone who met a ton of the fans one-on-one that night, I must say the great majority were absolutely great young kids who were genuinely excited to meet their idols. Did I have a fully grown human flung into me not once, but twice? Yes. They were very apologetic, but then did it again. Duh.
Must say, I didn't know a single song (my bad!), but that was some great show, the sound, the visual artistry - sometimes the stage looked like you could take a photo and hang it on your wall as an artwork, and the pyro made Rammstein look like Guy Fawkes in an West Auckland driveway.
And those people in the crowd, they were so amped for it. Most of them were absolutely overjoyed, and dancing like crazy - I got a huge buzz out of just looking at their happy faces. They needed this, you could tell.
Big shout out to all the parents accompanying their young kids. You could tell they were out of place, wished they could be anywhere else when they arrived, but went along anyway. Bet they still had a good time - it was just so captivating!
Yeah I had that thought too, like, where else can they have this experience? It’s probably giving them the same feeling I had in the Korn and Limp Bizkit moshpits in my teens and I don’t want to take that away from them.
I just think a little bit of joy can go a long way. Is Travis enjoying this? It’s hard to tell eh.
I'm always a mosh/front row kinda gal, if I go to gigs - don't really see the point of politely sitting somewhere - I can watch a concert at home, if I want to look at a screen. I'm also quite short-sighted, so being anywhere in the back is pointless to me. Got to feel it, experience it, have the bass punch you in the guts.
Disclaimer: This was after I was done working, I wasn't there the entire time. I enjoy working at gigs more than going - I always need to be on some mission to be happy. There's only a very small number of shows I would just go and see, even if they were free shows.
Ha someone else said this to me too. Yeah, I guess so. It's disappointing - if some thought went into pacing and structure and tone there could be a really good show in there.
I think it's OK to be grumpy about something that deserves it! I spent last night wondering what someone else might do when given a platform on a scale like that: Kendrick, say, or Tyler. It would have been a very different vibe for sure.
I don't understand the fighting thing - is that part of going to a Travis Scott show? Like, if you're in the mosh, and you feel like it while you're waiting, you can throw down with someone?
That said, I kind of wish I'd gone along. I can't say I'm a fan of Travis Scott, but I like spectacle as much as anyone.

Also: do you own a small bus?
I bet! Did they score the $30 tickets?
Most had $69 tickets, couple got the $30 ones. All were very happy with what they got for what they paid. Two cars
Haha great dadding. My 14yo loved it too.
You should have gone! Or were you not allowed to by the 17yos…
Ha, sort of now wish I had gone but yes, would not have been sitting anywhere near them
That'll be my son in about six months I reckon!

You were there?!? In the mosh?!?

Yep, we braved the mosh as a small group.

Sounds like 2024 Limp Bizkit to me... corporate rage targeting teen boys who don't know how to manage it

Sadly, not last night.
I will try not to sound like grumpy old man but it sounds bloody depressing!

Yeah they just pass the time by ... punching each other.
To be fair, they didn't give them anything else to do. No music, no entertainment, no vibe curation. Just ... crickets.
It was definitely a spectacle! Probably worth it for $30?
There were some very worried looking parents there though, with much younger kids that the one I took with me.
