Been thrashing the latest Caligula's Horse album this week, after seeing them at Whammy Bar a couple of weeks back. It always fascinates me how an album can drop, not really gel with you, you see the band perform tracks from it live, and then you can't get enough of it.
As for weekend plans, my mate is hosting his annual "Hot Ones" challenge, where we all subject ourselves to extreme acts of self-torture by eating chicken wings with ever intensifying levels of hot sauce on them. Still waiting to reach the age where "Old enough to know better" actually kicks in.
Hey David! I've had that happen with live bands too and I've noticed the same thing also happening with vinyl records - albums I didn't like suddenly make sense when you listen to the whole thing on a turntable.
And is this madness inspired by ... the YouTube series?!?
Absolutely! My mate does a refresh with the latest Hot Ones lineup every year... although that may change soon, as it is getting really expensive to ship it over (USD $100).
Aside: The first time I participated, I fell in love with one of the sauces. Promptly ordered some online, and it was stuck in Customs for a couple of weeks as I argued over the <1% honey it had as one of the ingredients. They were asking me all sorts of questions that I could only answer if I had the bottle in front of me, so I could cite them the ingredient list, which they had in front of them. Madness!
I've been listening to Australian band Regurgitator's latest album Invader alot lately. It's really great. Especially the best pop song this forty-something-white-cis-male-most-at-home-listening-to-guitar-rock has ever heard... cheekily titled 'This is Not a Pop Song'
The boy's been playing me Mac Miller and that's some good shit I missed.
I've been uncomplicatedky enjoying Le Sseraphim's Easy EP, 6 pastiches of 6 distinct anglosphere pop styles, rock, pop, reggaeton, trap, soul, dance. A simple concept well executed
Toro y Moi played a festival on WS Outerfield pre-Covid which had nothing else of interest to me at the time so I parked my bike on Bullock Track above and spent a woozy hour enjoying it from there😆
My daughter and I are currently enjoying Vulfmon’s Disco Snails…🐌 🪩
The big rain here in the mighty Bay of Plenty. Hot coffee and a week of coffee has been on the cards. When it rains, for some reason, SWIDT ends up on high rotate (and it always gets a play when we make the school hol visit up north to Dress Mart. Lol). New album from Eminem has been getting a good listen (memories from 2000 with a lot of 'shiiiiiit maybe this was pretty on the nose haha) and going to check out Childish Gambino's latest (and last) - i love Lithonia. And that Puckapunch track is going to open some doors. Time for another coffee.

So you're the one bringing in those varroa mites?!?

With Peaches?!? Listening now...
Yep that’s the one. I challenge you to not have ‘beep beep’ cycling through your head tonight.

Yes! This is on my weekend playlist too!
Wow- 10 years ago. Yup, that was it-and that line-up- there must have been another reason I didn't go as it was stacked!
TyM was good as you'd expect.
I had such a great time that day! Deftones, Snoop, Mac Miller, Major Lazer...

Faces is an all-timer RIP :(
But you missed Chaz😆
I honestly don't even remember which stage he was on!
Missed Pearl Jam too haha.

Hey Steve! Was that the 2014 Big Day Out? I missed him that day - was he good?
I haven't seen him live yet, but would love to...
Excited for new Drug Church!
I'm checking out the new albums from Remi Wolf and Clairo this weekend :)
It doesn't disappoint \m/

Haha I want to hate Packapunch so much but ... those headsnapping beats invoke the nostalgia gene in me SO HARD.
I haven't been able to listen to that Eminem album yet but I sure have read a lot about it. Maybe this weekend... maybe not ... haha.
