I mean, some of us read and watched Shogun in the 80's 👵🏼

Oh! ...and learned to speak (faux) Japanese, and re-enact choreographed fight sceens in the living room 📺. Sorry, mum.

Revival of the fitness 🥷 🤸🏻‍♀️ Talk about nostalgia mashups!

Have the new series on the watch list....

Honestly, I do this with most of the new albums I listen to for my album-a-day project/escapades/thing. Beyonce is coming up on Wednesday; I only listened to it for the first time on Friday. Nobody needs my 200 words on day one, and the wait takes the pressure off me (and it means I can do a second, third or more listen too).

This is what I do with TV now. Wait for the hype to die down. Means a much longer wait than just a week, though...

Does that mean you haven't seen Shogun yet?!

How long generally do you wait before picking something up Dan? And do you go back to the reviews once you've seen it for yourself?

Correct, waiting on Shogun and The Regime. There's a big backlog in any case, so no shortage of options. Once a month RNZ asks me to write about something from the long tail (that hasn't been previously reviewed there) so that takes up space. And, yes, I do have a selection of tabs open for Shogun, waiting for me to get around to it but I'll read them afterwards.

When critics were given early access to albums or shows or movies there used to be some really thoughtful critics available on release day. Maybe that still happens but it seems to be the minority. Now it's just WHO CAN YELL THE LOUDEST haha.

And then there's the physical media distractions. Last night I watched the first four eps of The World at War (1970s classic doco series about WWWII which is now on Blu-ray) but regretting it slightly now I see there are 26 episodes and eight special eps in the box set. Going to take weeks.
